Who We Are
Magister Militum was founded in 2002 by Richard and Zoë Clewer. Our company manufactures and imports of some of the finest wargaming figures, scenery and accessories money can buy, with over 14,700 products on our website. We truly are Giants in a Land of Miniatures!
Who Does What?
Richard has a degree in War Studies and a lifelong passion for history of almost all eras matched by an enthusiasm for wargaming and board games to be reckoned with. He researches new ranges, makes the moulds, answers historical enquiries and is half of our double act at trade shows.
We have two fantastic spin doctors, a packaging princess and Zoë spends her time mainly maintaining and improving our website, including photography of newly painted figures - a never ending job!!
Where Are We Based?
We’re based in two industrial units near Salisbury in south west England. This is where we run the manufacturing and mail order part of the business, although you can see our ranges ‘in the flesh’ on the show circuit throughout the UK and parts of Europe. Our History
Magister Militum came into being in 2002, when we began by importing Hallmark Figures 1:6000 ships back into the UK from their new owners in the USA. We soon progressed to manufacturing with the purchase of Navigator Miniatures 28mm ancient ranges and shortly afterwards bought the Chariot Miniatures 15mm range which spans the Biblical era to the Napoleonic Wars and has been in business for over 30 years.
It was during this time that we began producing 10mm Crimean War figures of our own. After a chance conversation with Rick Priestly at a Society of Ancients day, we began a rapid expansion of our fledgling 10mm Ancients range in collaboration with Games Workshop Warmaster Ancients team. This huge range of 10mm figures includes the Medieval era, a massive Napoleonic and Revolutionary Wars range, WW1 and WW2 figures and indeed our scale model dinosaurs.
Next came an expansion into the world of buildings and scenery with JR Miniatures, Baueda and Miniature World Maker from the USA, Italy and Australia respectively.
With GHQ we knew this was a range that couldn’t be beaten on quality or detail, so we had to make this excellent range easily available to you on this side of the Atlantic. We stock over 10,000 packs with deliveries on average every six weeks or so, so you’re never far away from 1:285 heaven.
Latterly, we have begun stocking pleasantly challenging strategy board games, card games and other useful items like bases, paint and brushes and unusual dice. Not to mention our growing range of 10mm fantasy ranges!
We’re always spotting and stocking new products that may interest you, the latest being 15mm Polly Oliver, 28mm Lead Adventure Miniatures, Dark Sword Miniatures which includes the Game of Thrones figures as well as A Song of Ice and Fire, Ozmy Oddzial 3mm and Et Sans Resultat! rules and armies series.

Majestic Twelve Games is a leading independent publisher of tabletop adventure games.
Majestic Twelve Games was founded in 1788 by a portly Viennese shopkeeper who little suspected the juggernaut into which his wenig Liebhaberei would develop. Initial forays into the infant Kriegspiel market were disappointing: witness the violently negative response to MJ12's first product, Wars of the Swedish Impressionists, which resulted in the company's warehouse being put to the torch.
While this was regarded as a minor inconvenience by the excessively-optimistic MJ12, it unfortunately resulted in a 200-year hiatus before the company's next release. In 1994, Starmada was unveiled to the general public as a "freeware" game via the rec.games.design Usenet board. As this event triggered neither widespread rioting nor arson, MJ12 considered it a resounding success.
Since then, MJ12 has shown itself to be a leader in the small-press wargaming community. Starmada is regularly cited as a favorite among starship combat gamers, and games such as Defiance, Grand Fieets, and Iron Stars have carved out sizeable niches among discriminating leadheads.

My real Name is Paul Ward, I was born in 1961, (I share my birthday with Nelson), I'm married with one daughter and five cats. I live in Woking in the south of England, the town where the Martians landed in War of the Worlds.
I work as a Teaching Assistant in a local School, a job I really enjoy as I get lots of time off and don’t have to work weekends. It’s also a fairly worthwhile thing to do, teaching the young. I get all the fun of being a teacher and none of the boring planning and marking stuff.
Previously I’ve had many jobs. I’ve been the manager of both a bookshop and a comic shop, I’ve worked as an illustrator and designer for many years and owned my own games shop. I’ve worked in factories and on building sites and for the software industry as a game designer.
My interests include games (obviously), not just wargaming but RPGs board games and video games too. I read a lot, mostly history for the factual stuff, I like first hand accounts especially; and a mixture of genres for fiction. I used to collect comics but nowadays I can’t be bothered. I occasionally buy a couple that look interesting but my collection has shrunk to include mainly the ones I read in the 60s and 70s when I was starting to read them and everything was new and exciting.
There are a few later gems and quite a lot of European stuff left in too.
I like films and have a fairly large collection of Blu-Rays and dvds.
I bought my first miniature in 1978, the Death Dealer figure by Ral Partha, and my lead addiction started from then. Previously I had owned many plastic Cowboys, Indians and US Cavalry made by Timpo and Britons and their like. I also had a well used set of 1/32 Airfix WWII figures. I'm currently rebuilding all these old collections in lead. Updates on my progress will appear on this site regularly of course.
I began Matakishi's Tea House in January 2006 as a way to chronicle my projects and it quickly grew in size and popularity with over 4.5 million visitors in it's 11 years of existence. Now, in 2017, It's got a new home here with a new hosting service and new ways to present my work.
Megalith Games Ltd. is a UK registered company founded in December 2008 by a core of two fanatical tabletop game experts. Which would be us – David and André.
Our goal with this company is to focus on releasing innovative games, especially in the tabletop and roleplaying genres.
Although our company registered in the UK and located in Germany We consider ourselves to be a european company. With an international focus, due to many business contacts in many different countries.

We always try our best to keep the cost of our products as low as possible, and even though there are circumstances we cannot influence which might force us to adjust our prices. We can assure you that we will always be fair to our customers and only raise prices where unavoidable! Our purpose is not to get rich, and we do not have stockholders we need to satisfy with high profits; we are a company of gamers for gamers!

Modiphius is built on strong principles of good business practice working fairly with freelancers and staff.
Modiphius is the brainchild of gaming entrepreneur Chris Birch who founded the business in 2012. With his wife Rita before launching the successful Achtung! Cthulhu gaming universe via Kickstarter in early 2013.
Chris and Rita well known for personally leading their projects and have worked hard to build a great reputation. For excellent customer service and a strong family atmosphere in the company. Modiphius Entertainment built on strong principles of good business practice working fairly with freelancers and staff.
The word 'Modiphius' was the name of a solar system in a world that Chris Birch worked on with long time collaborator Stuart Newman. (they co-wrote FATE Sci-fi game Starblazer Adventures together) and came from the verb 'modified' which defined as:Make partial or minor changes to (something), typically so as to improve it or to make it less extreme.Transform (a structure) from its original anatomical form during development or evolution.
Idea of transformation
CHRIS: I loved the idea of transformation - through inspiration we encourage people to transform, to evolve into something more. My own life evolved in 2012 with my marriage to Margarita. The development of Modiphius and finally the platform to develop the creative projects spinning around in my head. I've always been a fan of Greek Myth, and those epic tales of Odysseus, Perseus. And others weren't just great action stories but meant to educate, to inspire and teach the young men and women of Greek times. So that old star system name popped into my head when I was dreaming up a name for our venture and I suddenly imagined this old warrior. His bones aching from the years, resting in the sunshine on the steps of a crumbling temple whilst the children pleaded for just one more story.

"Wait wait wait!" Modiphius' laughed as the children sitting around him on the crumbling steps screamed for this story or that story, already told a hundred times but never tired in their minds. He gripped the old battered spear leaning against the pillar and levered himself up into a more comfortable position. Arched his back, stretched his arms and took in a breath of the sea air. Still more little minds burning hot with anticipation joined the crowd and the voices grew to a crescendo. He smacked the tip of the spear against the ruined wall three times and then all was quiet. For they knew this meant a new story...His gravelly voice echoed around the fallen temple. I was once sent on a perilous quest. Against a foe that threatened to consume our world, the task so fraught with danger that none who went before had returned. The looks on their faces, eyes agog, imaginations spinning more than made up for the aches and pains of old age. For he could see in each and every one of them a seed of greatness.
To my wonder
To my wonder, a new friend, Elias from Greece, saw this story and told me about the "Argyraspides" (in Greek:"ΑΡΓΥΡΑΣΠΙΔΕΣ"). Or 'Silvershields', where the name for our community team came from. Not so much known about them, veterans of Alexander III's Great Army who over sixty years old. (imagine their training, experience & formidability), who held in high honour him. So you see perhaps there was a Modiphius living in Ancient Greece. Or perhaps they'll be a Modiphius a million years in our future sitting amongst the ruins of our world, but I know he would enjoy telling every single story to inspire those around him.

Mongoose Publishing was founded in 2001 and within 6 months became the UK’s largest publisher of role playing games. Initially concentrating on d20 based products, Mongoose Publishing's first book was the Slayers Guide to Hobgoblins. Part of the Slayers Guide series of books.
