Long Business Description

Matador Models was founded in 1997, and first traded at Trucks & Tracks that year. Since then our ranges of kits in resin and white metal have continued to grow rapidly. At the company’s heart are its KC ranges. These are conversions and improvements on 1/76th plastic kits. From there we have branched out into complete kits, and the range reflects the interests of our small group of master builders: if we like it and it is not on the market, we build it! We have also bought and therefore kept on the market kits from other manufacturers, notably most of the 4Mil and the complete Airfield Accessories ranges, from 1/144th to 1/35th, though the largest scale, being too far away from our own interests, we have now passed it on to Scalelink. More recent acquisitions have been masters from the Trux and BW ranges.

While extending these ranges, we have added more: AA76 in our favourite 1/76th scale and AAC, a range of conversions on airfield vehicles in 1/76th and 1/72nd. Following a growth of interest in the First World War, we have extended and reorganised our early ranges. We have also widened our interests, both by stocking plastic kits which complement our ranges and by starting a fantasy range for role play and wargamers.

If Matador tries for a “house style” it is that its kits should be a pleasure to build, and we aim to keep them in the middle range of complexity. While it is always best to refer to photographs and other references when building a kit, we try to make our models capable of standing alone: of being built and painted accurately by someone who does not have several books on the subject. If you are a beginner with only a few plastic kits behind you, or coming back into the hobby, why not take on one of the less demanding projects - try a conversion kit.

There are many sturdy plastic kits on the market which, with a conversion kit and a little effort, can be turned into eye catching and rare vehicles and enhance a collection. In the Tank Museum you can find research articles for beginners and experienced alike.

Matador is and will remain a small company, not least because for us, as for our customers, this is a hobby. Note that because of the way we subcontract the manufacture our models, while the larger parts are nearly always in resin, some details are produced both in metal and resin. Some examples of kits marked “metal/resin” may therefore appear entirely in resin or metal. The decisions are made for reasons of production, and do not in any way affect the quality of the model you receive. We hope you enjoy our kits.

Milicast Model Company
Business Genre
Long Business Description

Milicast Model Company are probably the longest continuous manufacturers of 1:76/20mm model resin kits in the world.

Resin cast scale models were pioneered in the seventies by Eric Clark (ECM) and passed on to Milicast in 1985. Since then we have continued to be in the vanguard of progress and innovation in this scale and were one of the first manufacturers to introduce Polyurethane resins to AFV reproduction.

Over the years we have built up a pool of experience, which with our Master Pattern Makers, has allowed us to build both the popular AFVs, but also many of the unusual types often neglected by the plastic kit manufacturers in this scale.

We now have what is widely accepted as the largest range of quality resin cast 1:76/20mm Scale Model kits, Figure sets and Conversions of WWII subjects, available anywhere in the world.

Our aim has always been to build as accurate a model as possible using all available research material, including original vehicles where possible, and the worldwide resources of M.A.F.V.A. If new data becomes available we will update our "master" at the earliest possible opportunity to further improve the model. That's something that the mass produced plastic kit manufacturers just don't do!

In late 2004 we started our Battlefield Series in response to repeated customer requests to make available models which, although simplified in their construction and suitably robust, would retain the Milicast standard of high level accuracy and fine detail but be suitable for both Gamers and Collectors. We believe that we offer that quality alternative. This is an expanding range with "off the shelf" availability at competitive prices. As a result some Milicast Premiere Range kits will in future be superseded by their Battlefield Series equivalents whilst others will continue to be available in both ranges. New models will however be added to both ranges.

Milicast are also the sole British and European distributor of Aleran Decals of the USA who produce a superb range of the finest quality 20mm scale water slide decals covering a wide range of WWII subjects for most of the combatant nations including American, Australian, Belgian, British, Bulgarian, Canadian, Croatian, Finnish, French, "Free-French", German, Hungarian, Indian, Italian, New Zealand, Polish, Romanian, South African, Soviet & Spanish Civil War AFV's. Subjects also include Axis Flags, French Road Signs, Tactical & Unit Markings, Allied Stars, Balkenkreuz, Licence Plates, etc., We fully recommend these decals for use with both resin and metal kits or just to improve plastic injected kits. We also Stockists of Dan Taylor Modelworks WWII figure and Decals range.

Long Business Description

S&S Models produce the largest range of cold war military vehicle models in 1/72 scale. we also make models in 28mm and 15mm scales as well as terrain.

About
This may surprise some of you but S&S Models started way back in 1986!

It was started by Stewart Crosby and Shaun Matthews, we are 2 wargamers from Burnham on sea in Somerset U.K. and we still own and run it.

We are both members of the ‘Escape Committee Wargames Club’ winners of various awards for excellent demo games at a lot of the UK shows.

(for more details see the relevant page on this site)

Back in the early 80’s gamers and modelers had limited choice for vehicles, guns and figures apart from the plastic models by Airfix, Matchbox, Nitto, Hasegawa and Fujimi there was virtually no resin or metal models in 20mm (1/76-1/72) scale apart from Gramodels, Red Star and Eric Clark and you could only buy the Eric Clarke models if you were in the M.A.F.V.A. (The miniature afv assoc) and so were really hard to get and expensive compared to the plastic ones easily bought in toy and model shops.

In those days gamers generally used mainly plastic kits and only bought resin or metal when you could not get the relevant model in plastic.

When 2 new companies started to advertise new ranges of resin models for sale in the model magazines at a reasonable price we both became interested and duly sent off for some models to expand our collections.

After a few weeks the models arrived and after opening the box we were quite frankly disappointed with the contents, very fragile & broken mudguards, huge air holes and some not even looking like the real vehicles.

After some thought i decided i could scratch build some better ones as i had been converting plastic kits for years, even making them for fellow club members.

We asked a few members what sort of models they would like us to make and after a small list was made we started on the first 2 vehicles an M8 Greyhound and an M20 armoured car which seemed to be the most popular choice.

These club sales gave us enough profit to enable us to buy more resin and rubber which at the time was very expensive in comparison to now and the range grew as we added the Cromwell turret to convert the Matchbox Comet and an a/a turret for the Airfix Crusader.

As our mastering skills and moulding skills grew we started to think about sending off models for review in the various magazines available and our very first review was in Army and Navy Model world magazine, in the June 86 issue, the magazine is sadly long gone, steadily sales grew and more suggestions came flooding in, some good some not so good.

For most of this time we were both working full time with our ‘real’ jobs and sorting the mail order and attending shows at weekends, now one of us does this full time as the sales and range have steadily grown.

Please note, we can supply any of the parts of the current range for your own conversions ect and can sometimes supply parts from older models as well as we have lots of old moulds still here.

Our policy has always to ask you what you want and to try if possible to make them available if we think there is enough interest hence the 15+ club list.

We strive to make the next model better than the last and to use the relevant material for the models parts making them easier to cast and also making them much stronger so gamers can be confidant they will last more than 5 mins on the gaming table.

We also reserve the right to alter or amend any materials or methods of construction as we see fit.

I still have one of the awful resin models we bought and i sometimes look at it to inspire me to make our models even better.

All models are supplied as a single model, unless stated, and are delivered unmade and unpainted and are not for sale to anyone under the age of 18 years due to small parts and some may contain lead.

Thanks for your interest

Stewart Crosby and Shaun Matthews

Thoroughbred Figures and the chief designer of the well known 1/600 series of American Civil War Ships and Ironclads. Former teacher and Army officer (artillery). Also been having fun making things, mold-making, casting, and war gaming for over 30 years. First gamed in Dick Bryant’s (The Courier) basement.

Randy Hardin Trusted adviser on all things naval. I first met Randy when he was stationed with the Navy at Norfolk. He became my good gaming buddy – my last one in fact - and was the first to suggest that if I made a “few more boats (ironclads) we could game with them.” So blame it all on him. But then Randy retired from the service and went home to Illinois despite my attempts to get him to stay in the Tidewater area. Hey, once you get a good gaming buddy you try to hold on to him. Right? Now Randy mans my dealer tables at Little Wars in the Chicago area most years, whether or not I’m able to make it out there myself.

Other Shoutouts!

Bill Frye Special thanks for many many things.Jim Moulton Special thanks for starting the 15mm 1812 Naval product line with a lot of the ship models and the rules (first seen as Prevailing Winds now Sea Eagles).Starting in 2015 - Very special thanks to Stacy Jenneman and Forrest Harris. The 'Magicians!'I’d like to thank each of these individuals listed above for assisting me in what I do, and for helping to make Thoroughbred what it is today. All too often I refer to this endeavor as a one man band, but that is obviously far from the truth. Many thanks to you all!!!! - Toby Barrett

Long Business Description

Hello my name is Paul and Tumbling Dice is my company. I first produced miniature figurines in the mid 1970s as a founder of Asgard Miniatures, then moving onto design and manufacture gift and commemorative items (Mucky Duck), while also creating Tumbling Dice wargames ranges.

The designs reflect my preferences of scale and style, aimed to make practical wargames figures and models, for gaming projects of any size from individual skirmishes to entire battles.

I would like to thank all my customers over the many years for their support and help, and future customers who I hope will find opportunities in my designs to expand their ideas and projects onto new horizons.

May your dice roll kindly.

Paul.

In all the ranges figurines or models are designed to be used as games pieces, this dictates the model must have a certain amount of robustness along with the need for historical accuracy. I cast small items in Tin (Pewter) for strength and larger items in high quality Lead/Tin alloys. Some very large models are produced in Resin. The choice of scale is important as the size of models can restrict the type of game played, I have selected to produce in scales where the item can be used for the largest battles of the period, and still be recognised as an individual design mark or variant. The text below explains the ranges produced.

1/2400 Scale Naval. ‘AGE OF SAIL & STEAM’

Ships from Ancient times up to the end of the age of sail were rarely over 200 ft long (25 mm in 1/2400 Scale). It is only in the Victorian period warships of 400 ft became the norm. Gunnery ranges in the age of sail were less than one mile (660 mm to scale) and up to the 1880s were less than three miles. 1/2400 gives the gamer the space to play most any historical battle on a 8 ft x 6 ft table while providing models that can be used for an individual or skirmish type game . The models are cast in Pewter, and the larger ships have the rigging cast supporting the masts for strength, the sails are separate to allow for scenario options, most models are supplied with a separate scenic sea base. Flags for most nations are available along with discounted starter sets for each period.

1/4800 Scale NAPOLEONIC NAVAL.

This range of Napoleonic ships was designed to produce single piece castings to replace counters in board games mainly played on hex mats. Even the largest model will fit in a 30 mm hex tray. They would also work for gamers restricted in space or by using magnets as a travel game. A Trafalgar Battle Pack is available with enough ships for both sides.

1/600 Scale ‘VAPOUR TRAILS’

Aircraft, naval, and land items. This extensive range covers aircraft from the first aces up to and into the near future. Each mark and variant of an aircraft is recognisable yet games of 100 or more are practical in terms of cost and space required. 1/600 (3 mm to 6 ft) is also a scale that works well with naval coastal games and land scenarios. A series of discount starter sets and simple pick up and play rules are listed. Aircraft are sold individually in packs of 1 to 6 items according to size and except for a few items in resin are cast in Pewter. Decals are available for most nationalities and periods.

1/72 Scale (25 mm) HISTORICAL RANGES.

Designed to be compatible with plastic figurines and scenery, the ranges offer metal models at a practical cost for gamers to reproduce armies, while still providing detailed figurines & models for skirmish games. Items of riders or foot are sold in packs of 8 with at least 4 or up to 8 different designs per pack. Each pack may have shields or weapon options included and some have choices for equipment or head variants. Horses are sold in packs of 4 for the same price again there are 4 or more poses available. Army packs at discount are listed these contain the equivalent of 120 foot figures at the cost of only 100, many do contain the larger command packs and therefore total more than the 120 equivalent minimum. Foot and riders are cast in Pewter, horses in Lead/tin alloy.

1/76 Scale (20 mm) OLD CONTEMPTIBLES WW 1 and BLITZ KREIG WW 2.

These are ranges designed to be used with 1/76 scale plastic or metal vehicles. Smaller than 1/72 scale they can make up large units with artillery, tanks and transport, aircraft and railway gauge scenery readily available cheaply in plastic. Items on foot are again sold in packs of 8 or the equivalent horses in packs of 4, support weapons are listed for many armies. Foot and riders are cast in Pewter and Horses in Lead/Tin alloy

1/48 Scale (37 mm)

This range of WW 2 figures is aimed clearly at platoon level skirmish games. Many plastic kits and metal models are produced in this scale to back up the infantry and scenery is easily made. The range offers complete figures or multipart options for modellers wishing to populate armoured vehicles or transport vehicles. Equipment back packs, loose weapons and other kit can be used to individualise characters. Items are cast in Pewter or Lead alloy according to size. Packs are based around 4 figures to a pack.
