Panzerschiffe and Ultimate N Scale - this is the home of 1/2400 scale model ships.

For all those new naval hobbyists who have come into the hobby since Panzerschiffe began, a brief history of our company: Our ships and 1/2400 scale itself began in 1970 for the purpose of fighting naval battles in an area like a ping-pong table. The existing 1/1200 ships at that time were too large and expensive for wargaming. Ships were needed that were rugged but plenty detailed for gaming. Thus one-half of the 1/1200 scale was introduced. I made the Fiji, Bismarck, Gaalster, Salt Lake City, Graf Spee, Exeter, Leander, King George V, Hood, Prinz Eugen, and the H class destroyer as trial ships. By 1973 the ships had grown in numbers to 72 and we decided to advertise the ships for sale. My Tactical Game (TG-1) and Strategic Game (SG-1) were also released in 1973. Since then others have joined the 1/2400 scale market with metal ships. Panzerschiffe has grown to 550 ships with most of them made by our company exclusively.

Based in Cambridge in the UK, Paper Shipwright has been publishing high-quality paper/card models since 1999. Paper Shipwright is the trading name of David Hathaway.

The range of models published reflects the market niche initially identified – namely smaller Victorian-era warships – but has since expanded to include modern vessels as well as civilian subjects and buildings with a maritime theme.

A partnership formed in 2006 with Trinity House has resulted in the launch of a range of models featuring English and Welsh lighthouses. Working around the coast (both clock-wise and anti-clockwise) from a starting point in East Anglia, it is hoped to release a number of models each year – and with nearly 70 lighthouse to create models of, this is not a short-term project.

Each model’s subject is exhaustively researched and designed based on original drawings and sources wherever possible. All the models include a history of the vessel, English instructional text and full assembly diagrams.

While some models are free and can be downloaded at no charge, others must be bought and all purchased models are only available as printed copies. The majority of the models published have been designed by David Hathaway and they are printed in small batches on a photo-quality inkjet printer that uses light-fast and waterproof pigment inks.

Conquest is a new tabletop game of fantasy mass battles that takes place in Eä. This new strategy battle system provides wargamers and new-to the hobby cadets with a fun, easy to play and yet deeply tactical tabletop wargame.

Para Bellum is the child of that inner discussion all gamers have, the one that starts with “if I made my own game…” For years, its cradle was a rented storage room, filled with tables, glass displays and the smell of paint and plastic. Its voice was the laughs over our game tables and the discussions, about miniatures, about rules, about cost. Back then, it seemed a fantasy. Today, it seems inevitable, that one of us would walk in, gather us and say “I have this idea…” Well, one did and here we are.

We have come a long way, since then. Today, Para Bellum Wargames Ltd is a game developer, headquartered in Cyprus with offices in Greece and the USA and are part of substantial conglomerate with interests in shipping, real estate, agriculture and technology. We operate on a global basis and are led by a seasoned team of gaming professionals with deep industry know-how, who draw on the extensive corporate, legal and financial resources of our wider group. We have teamed up with Riverhorse studios to bring you the game we call Conquest.

We are proud of what we have become, proud of what we’re making and proud of all we’re planning. We are proud of how far we’ve come. And yet, somehow, we never felt closer to home. We are still that same ragtag group of gamers, who’s ‘proper’ jobs are artists, sculptors and writers. We still gather, argue and laugh around game tables, we still smile at the smell of paint and plastic. It is our Passion that brought us together. Bear with us, because the scale of what we are striving to achieve is immense.
