The Fantasy Chess project was simple. Combine chess with wargaming. Make a chess game that you had to fight for the square.

As the evolution of Fantasy Chess progressed, playtesters liked and didn't like many things about the game and it evolved slowly from its rudimentary state. But one thing remained constant: This was a variation on a theme of chess.

It should not mutate into something that does not act or look like chess. It should use the standard chess pieces (regardless of what they look like) and use the standard chess moves in its core game. Let the expansion sets take on the outrageousness some of the playtesters demanded.

Aside from Expansion Sets to Fantasy Chess Shadow Hex Games is developing Zombie Chess, an apocalyptic look at traditional chess.

You can e-mail the link below with any questions about how Fantasy Chess or Zombie Chess operates, where to get Fantasy Chess Zombie Chess Rulebook or any other questions.

I made Fantasy Chess to be an interesting variant on chess. It is traditional chess with a layer of wargaming (or Role-Playing Game) mechanics layered on top. It uses traditional pieces (Pawn, Rook, Knight, Bishop, Queen, King) with their traditional moves. What makes it different is the ability of pieces to share the squares and instead of taking a piece, you fight for the square using dice and statistics.

You say traditional chess is tough enough as it is without adding more things to complicate it? Perhaps. But chess is actually very simple:

Six different pieces with six different moves.

A playing surface of 8 squares by 8 squares.

Move your pieces in such a way as to be able to get one to enter the enemy kings square, thus winning the game while avoiding his pieces from getting at your king. Remove those enemy pieces that get in your way.

Children have been taught to play traditional chess and its easy for them.

If you remove the daunting thought that traditional chess is hard because there are so many ways the pieces can interact, that if I make the wrong it'll be over so I have to worry over this move for 10 minutes, that its an intellectual bully game, then you are on your way to having fun with Traditional Chess.

Well, that is what Fantasy Chess is doing. Its having fun with Traditional Chess by adding some flavor to it. In the core game, all it does is add the ability to co-occupy the square of your own troops. It does replace the taking of pieces with a dice procedure that notes hit points and each piece's ability to hit, but once you learn the combat system (a common concept for most miniature games and role-playing games), it isn't really that complicated.

Children have been taught to play Fantasy Chess and its easy for them.

Having playtested Fantasy Chess over the years with hundreds of players, I know I have a playable, exciting chess variant. If you give it a try, I think you will agree.

Long Business Description

Shadowforge Miniatures is a small but established company that has been producing miniatures since 1997. Along with a handful of other Australian manufacturers our figurines are designed, sculpted and cast locally, in our case in Sydney, NSW.

From the start our objective has been to offer a range of quality miniatures which sell at a reasonable price, and which fill a gap in the market that has been generally ignored until recently, namely the production of female figurines.

Of course, this doesn't mean that we haven't added the odd guy or two in the range! We have been pleased with the continued response with which our range of figures has been greeted by gamers and painters around the world.

Also pleasing is the number of suggestions that people have given us for further female miniatures - more than enough to keep male versions on the drawing boards!

Currently we offer a range of over five hundred figurines and we are adding to this number every month or two.

If there are any figurines that you would like to see included in the range please contact us and we will see what can be done. Any comments on design, quality, etc, would also be very much appreciated, as we want to continue to produce good quality figurines that meet the needs of the miniatures gamer or painter.

Long Business Description

Shard Tabletop is a company dedicated to creating online tools for the 5th edition of the world's greatest roleplaying game.

Shard, as a shared moniker for collaborative work, has existed since Darren Shakib and Hal Howard met in high school in 1982. Two things that interested them both at the time were software design and Dungeons & Dragons.

One of the first programs they wrote was a dungeon crawler. While that project didn’t go anywhere, they both went on to successful careers in software development and design careers. Both spent over 20 years each at Microsoft developing products that are used by tens of millions of people everyday.

Through it all, the love of Dungeons & Dragons never faded. While individual campaigns came and went, the game endured and many friends were made at the table. It became a family pastime that embraced spouses, kids, siblings, and friends.

So now, they revisit the game to create tools for tabletop gamers by tabletop gamers. Tools that don’t require a degree in computer science to operate. Tools that are not confused about the difference between video games and making the tabletop experience better.

Shard Tabletop started with the development of a few tools for personal use and grew organically to a full virtual tabletop and character sheet dedicated to 5th edition rules. Friends started asking to use it for their games. Then friends of friends started asking and a simple idea turned into a shared project to bring these tools to the world.

The first public version was made available in May of 2020. Thanks to the feedback of thousands of users, significant new features and improvements have been added to the software every week since then. In January 2021, Shard will formally launch via Kickstarter.

Thank you for using Shard and for making a dream that started almost 40 years ago come true.

Shelf Oddity are a group of modellers. We like to do things our way, and the (often) exotic scope of our interests results in the market's inability to meet our expectations. We decided to go ahead with our own ideas as skill and available technology permit.  At some point a thought came to our minds "Hey, maybe there are more freaks out there?" – at this point comes Shelf Oddity, stage right.

Our detail and decal sets are usually created to fit models we build (read: have started and found out that there are deficiencies/inaccuracies/simplifications/room for improvement/details missing etc.). This helps to put some genuine effort into it. On the other hand - there may and will be some idiosyncrasies, exactly for the same reason.

If you expect easy-to-build, shake-and-bake product... well, good for you. This is not and will not be Tamiya-like easy listening lounge music. You'd rather expect some prog heavy metal.

First scope of our focus is aviation in 1/144 scale, although our 1/72 roots may come through from time to time. The emphasis is on external details comes from our observations – nobody really cares how much effort you put into creating detail that is invisible to regular viewer. But don't expect we will strictly follow any set of rules. We do what we find interesting.

Ships in 1/700 and 1/350 scales are the second area of our interest. You can expect the unexpected here.

Feel free to propose new subjects. If they suit us, we will follow. Just remember this is purely subjective, so don't be offended if we decline.

You can contact us by email (even@shelfoddity.com), via contact form somewhere here and on facebook (www.facebook.com/shelfoddity)

Note concerning production batches and delivery time:

We start slow, with limited series. This means "out of stock" can happen, and you may need to wait for next production batch. Don't be afraid though - a product is not likely to be discontinued if there is demand for it.

Most of available items are piling beneath our desk, waiting to be packed and sent. It usually takes 1-3 work days to move our bottom to post office. It may take longer if the order is complex and one of us is currently visiting Mojave or Kure. If in doubt - contact us; ok we will not be able to deliver for next week, but hey, maybe next two weeks?. We only ask for your patience. This is our secondary business, for the time being at least. Where should it leads us? Where should you lead us?

In March 1992, with the help of Californian master modeller Bill Horan, Paul Clarke booked a display table at the MFCA (Miniature Figure Collectors of America) Exhibition in Valley Forge Pennsylvania. With his hire car packed with some 40 painted figures and about 90 kits, Paul set off from Athens, Georgia, not quite knowing what to expect down the Jersey Turnpike.

Why does an Australian model maker produce American Civil War miniatures? The inspiration for the range comes from Paul Clarke's interest in the history and soldiers of the Civil War and subsequently, the photos, paintings and sculpture of the period. Coupled with his interest in model-making and military miniatures, Paul's objective is to produce the most comprehensive range of Civil War figurines available.

The figures shown on the web site were painted by Paul, some of the Confederates shown, forming part of his original display at the 1992 Valley Forge show. Paints used are predominantly Hobby enamel (Humbrol), mixed with Artist Oil Colours for various effects. The techniques used are similar to those employed by famous modellers Shep Paine and Bill Horan. Some of the figures and vignettes shown have won medals at various model exhibitions including Euro Militaire, Chicago MMSI, Washington and Paris World Expos.

Gifted sculptors Julian Hullis of England and Dr Andrea Iotti of Italy have both been commissioned to provide horses for the Shenandoah range and further cavalry figures are planned for the range.

Another exciting new release has been the gloss painted boxed sets "Traditionals" Civil War Toy Soldiers. Catering for the adult traditional toy soldier collector, the figures are adapted from the existing kit range and hence offer a high level of detail and anatomical accuracy. Painting standard, although in the conventional Toy Soldier style is exceptional with quality and finish being the prime objective. Each year, Paul travels to modelling shows and exhibitions throughout the world to display new Shenandoah releases and maintain contact with fellow producers and collectors.

There is still a lot of new figures to sculpt and many new releases are planned!
