The Battleground show, established in 2009, started life as Smoggycon, and was organised by Stuart Johnston and the Middlesbrough Gamers Club. From 2013, Pendraken Miniatures took over the organising of the show, with the aim to build on the excellent foundations already in place.

For 2014, the show moved to a new home, at the Queens Campus Sports Hall, in Stockton-on-Tees. This building is part of the Stockton Campus of Durham University, and provides a modern spacious hall, able to house a bigger number of games and traders, as well as offering local attractions and nearby shopping facilities for our visitors. The new venue received a very positive response from the visitors.

Our main aim is to constantly improve the show, making it into one of the major shows in the north of England. We hope you'll come along and join us for a great day out!

1/72 plastic toy soldiers, also known as HO/00 and roughly equivalent to 20mm, are my favorite figures to wargame with. Why? I don't know really, I just like them. Something to do with my childhood no doubt.

Bay Area Yards offers high quality, 1/600-scale ship models depicting vessels from the early ironclad era (approx. 1850-1875), as well as certain related accessories such as buildings, gun installations and batteries, small boats and rafts.

In the past, Bay Area Yards, (or "BAY" for short), offered individually hand-cast hard resin models. While the majority of our older models are still individually hand- cast, nearly all of our newer models are now cast in white metal, a form of pewter. Our kits are nicely detailed, highly durable, and are easy to complete. They can be painted, super-detailed and are suitable for display, wargaming or both. Our newer models now include white metal artillery, boats, ventilators, and masts where these are appropriate to the kit. Photos on our web site will demonstrate how our models may be completed. A number of our customers have used etched brass parts such as railings, to additionally enhance their models.

Originally, we offered resin hulls without masts. This is rapidly changing as more of older BAY kits are being remastered with white metal masts and other parts now included. The newer kits have white metal artillery, masts, and other parts where appropriate. As we continue to revise and remaster our older kits, BAY is pleased to now offer a selection of mast sets with furled sails. Thus you have a choice of purchasing mast sets for your models or constructing your own masts for those vessels where the BAY masts might not be appropriate. Mast sets are available in both fore & aft rig, and in square rig formats. As the BAY square rigged mast sets have the spars/sails cast separately from the mast, you can very easily set the masts up to be bark rigged by leaving off the appropriate spars. Berthier Campaign Manager is a Windows program that manages wargames campaigns for miniatures. Berthier is a generic campaign engine that is suitable for historical, naval or fantasy wargaming in most periods. Berthier allows two campaigners, without an umpire, to run simple strategic campaigns leading to tabletop battles. Alternatively umpires can use Berthier to run two sided campaigns.

The history of Bicorne miniatures dates back to the early 1980's when it was originally owned by Frank Hinchclife. It subsequently passed ownership a few times through people such as Robert Fort and Brian Holland. Andrew Barrett bought the company in November 1999. He also brought together a number of companies such as Firing Line and Connoisseur amalgamating them into one company bringing them back to the United Kingdom.

Andrew developed a few new ranges such as the English Civil War 28mm which were some if not the best figures on the market and acclaimed by those who made reviews in the wargame world. Behind the scenes he and friend Simon over the last three years sorted and developed many other new additions to the collection which were never made available to the public.

Andrew has now sold the business to myself and remains along with Simon my very good friend. Rest assured it is my intention to carry on the legacy of Bicorne Miniatures and produce a number of new ranges to add to those already in existence.
