Foxhole Terrain are located in a small town just outside of Atlanta Georgia - Austell. Janet and I started FHT to have something to occupy Dan's time. I have always enjoyed working with my hands, and I have a lot of experience in scratch building wargaming accessories: buildings, rivers, roads, fences, etc. I also worked for myself as a handyman, so building/sculpting came naturally.

I researched sculpting, mold making, and casting. I am self taught in most aspects of the company. I was able to expand because the resin and mold material was no longer as toxic and it did not require a special workspace and a bunch of other tough requirements. We started in the summer of 1996 with a few products sold on our website. Our first convention was Cold Wars in 1999.

The name, Foxhole Terrain, did not originate from my last name. I took a break from gaming to get back into live music. I have played drums for 35+ years. It was one of my first loves. We have a full basement, so I turned it into a large music room.

Our basement is almost completely underground, and one of the first musicians to visit said it was like a foxhole. He did not know my last name at the time. The band constantly called the music room the foxhole, so the room was christened “The Foxhole”.

When I first started sculpting and making molds, it was in the music room, “The Foxhole”. Since I was mainly making terrain stuff, we decided to call the company Foxhole Terrain.

Novus Design Studio produce Miniature Terrain & Accessories for Tabletop & War Games. Compatible with D&D, Warhammer, Flames of War, Bolt Action, Games Workshop, Privateer Press, as well as many other games.

Novus Design Studio was established in April 2014 by Robert and Nancy Rumfelt who were the founders and original owners of JR Miniatures.

Robert and Nancy have always called the miniature gaming industry home because it is an area of shared interest and brings together their love of military history, model design and scale miniatures.

Here at Novus Design Studio, we create and manufacture a variety of scale buildings and wargaming terrain features for the miniature tabletop gaming and model railroad markets.  We supply tabletop gaming terrain, accessories and models wholesale and to retail hobby markets with high quality resin models with a special focus on customer service that includes a 100% fill rate and quick turn times on orders.

We take a design idea for a new model from concept all the way through to manufacturing.  The first step is to identify a market need for a certain product and to do this we engage our customers utilizing social media platforms to gather customer feedback and suggestions.  Receiving real time feedback from our customers is very important to us and helps to guide us through the new product development process.

We look forward to supplying our customer's wargame and tabletop terrain and accessory needs and offering an ever-expanding range of innovative models sure to capture the imagination of hobbyists and gamers from all different backgrounds and countries!

Who am I?

My name is Jörg Bender.
Uups, there is no letter ö in your alphabet? So let’s make it Joerg.

I am German and came to the US with my family in January 2014, when my wife, Petra, started working for the employer of her dreams. And she still does.
For me, this meant becoming a homemaker at first. And after about 1.5 years I decided to start my own business, based on what I have done before. Back in Germany I had an online store www.pumika.de and I sold dollhouse and wargaming miniatures. Mostly conventional retail items from all over the world (Europe, USA, Canada, Japan), some of them hard to find in Germany.

Why „Things from the Basement“?

Over the last 20 something years or so my spot for designing, building and painting miniatures of all sorts was the basement. And now it is again! So why not call my business “Things from the Basement, LLC”? And to show that I am serious about it, I registered as an LLC.

What does “Things from the Basement” do?

Well, obviously selling dollhouse and wargaming miniatures. But this time my intention is to do it a bit differently.
Again I am selling dollhouse and wargaming miniatures, with the focus being wargaming.
I design and manufacture laser-cut HDF (High Density Fiberboard) kits for 28mm, 15mm and 20mm figures. All kits are highly detailed, yet easy to assemble. Buildings open up for easy access during gaming. Most kits are made of a variety of materials like HDF, chipboard, paper and whatever else is needed to create realistic and functioning models for your gaming table.
My ranges cover several historical periods and geographical areas as well as Fantasy and Science Fiction. And in case you can’t find what you are looking for: time allowing I also do custom projects!
In addition to that you will find complementary products from different companies. Mostly from Europe and not always easy to find in the US.

Anything else?

Yes, as I have already mentioned my family in the beginning, I have to add that there are two more women in my life besides my wife Petra: First there is Paula, our daughter, and second Sasha, our cat!
And all three of them support me in realizing my American dream!
