Renaissance Miniatures

Renaissance Miniatures make a range of model building, ship and accessory kits for tabletop gamers. Right now, we’re concentrating on 28mm scale models from a range of historical periods. But we’re gradually widening our horizons as our business grows. Our models come as pre-painted plywood kits that you glue together with simple woodworking adhesive. We use two large, state-of-the-art laser cutter for precision cuts – so every kit fits together perfectly every time.

Renee and Steve Baker have considerable experience with “flexible manufacturing” – laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC milling, etc. Renee has experience with interior design and management and started a small business making custom dollhouses. Steve has been a gamer since. Dungeons & Dragons was pronounced “Chainmail” and works in as a 3D graphics consultant in computer games, simulation and augmented reality.

Renaissance Miniatures was initially funded by our. Medieval Village Kickstarter back in November 2012 and later boosted to a long-term viable business by our. East Asian Village Kickstarter in May 2013 and our “Pirates” Kickstarter in mid-2014. Our “Castles & Siege Engines” project in March 2015 was a ‘quicky’ two week project. Our “Victorian/SteamPunk” project launched in October 2015.

We have two state-of-the-art Lasersaur laser cutters which allow us to make all of our product in-house in Manor, Texas. We are actively investigating 3D printing and CNC milling technologies for the production of terrain and accessories. For the gamer market and run Renaissance Innovations, which investigates other business opportunities in gaming and graphics software consultancy.

About Steve Baker

Hi! I’m Steve Baker – if you’d like to know more about who I am and what I do, read on.

I have a degree in Computers and Cybernetics from the University of Kent at Canterbury. I’ve spent most of my career writing computer graphics software – for simulation and for video games. Plus a bunch of odd side jobs and contract work that took in more quirky/weird stuff. When I started work just out of college, I was using a Intel 8008 computer. Which was only the second microprocessor ever to exist. We had to load programs via paper tape. I wrote a paint program at a time before the mouse had been invented, and I was on the team at. Philips Research Labs who produced the first ever CD-ROM.

Since then I’ve built flight simulators for the. F16, F18 and all manner of other aircraft as well as for the. Space Shuttle, ISS, and two different simulators for the Predator/Reaper drone. I did work to develop a comic book generator program that would help military vets with. PTSD to tame the worst of their bad memories.

I worked in video-games for Midway and Wargaming, and have done a bunch of stuff like an Augmented Reality system. For previewing what you’d look like wearing various items of jewellery and sunglasses. And implementing 3D camera software for Intel that lets you scan objects in the real world and import them into Minecraft
