The world is at war. Condemned by the twisted power of the Ancient, mankind is a scattered force, clinging to an existence of bloodshed and torment, trapped in a vicious deadlock of terrifying events, as time and space collapse upon themselves hour by bloody hour. An endless array of realities are born and reborn at the whims of an alien evil from the Void; an evil with an insatiable hunger that can only be sated by the energy of war. Forced to fight and to die again and again, trapped in an endless loop in an infinite multiverse, there is no choice but to march on; to survive; to battle for a future that may not exist. Every thought and action of the combatants, every death, every horrific explosion, creates the core energy that the Ancient feeds upon, ringing out across infinite universes. Demonic entities flock to the fields of battle to feast on the agony of the dying. The Ancient’s machine-warriors march across countless battlefields, bringing death to the human warriors who try desperately to stand before their armoured might, brief sparks of light in the darkness, which are extinguished before being born anew to continue the fight in another place, another time. Time streams collide and intertwine as the Ancient’s source of Quantum energy grows ever stronger. Parallel universes mesh, the veil between worlds tearing and reality distorting hour by hour. To die in battle in one universe is but a momentary defeat, for an infinite number of doubles exist in the multiverse, ready to take the place of the fallen. And as the veil thins, so too do memories collide – every human soldier has felt his own death many hundreds or thousands of times, and yet still finds himself fighting endlessly, destined to repeat his part in the war over and over again. But it is this same cycle of apparent doom that fills the valorous human defenders with hope – for if they are now aware of the consequences of each action, can they not change their fate? Can they not make those small alterations to the course of the battle that may yet strike a blow against the Ancient? It is this hope that drives the humans onwards in the war eternal.
