I started Calpe Miniatures in 1994 after experiencing years of frustration collecting Napoleonics. No set of figures was ever complete, musicians and NCO’s were often overlooked and key formations were labeled 'not financially viable' and never produced. I decided to 'put my money where my mouth was' and started sculpting.
Initially I run Calpe on a part-time basis. With work commitments and a young family, the time I could dedicate to sculpting and producing figures was minimal. As the company grew, I eventually had to acknowledge the fact that I was finding it hard to cope with the business while I was doing other things and I decided to give Calpe my full attention.
Design ethos-
The figures are designed for my own collection. My interest at present lies in the late Napoleonic period, specifically the campaign in Germany that culminated in ‘The Battle of the Nations’ at Leipzig in 1813. Since the figures are designed to suit my personal requirements there are some very particular features of the design process that new customers should be aware of:
The figures are always designed in sets to suit a figure ratio of 20:1. The sets are designed to include officers, musicians, standard bearers, NCOs, casualties and enthusiastic figures.
The figures are moulded and cast to show as little distortion, flash or parting lines as possible. If the production figures are not good enough to be part of my collection, they are not sold!
Every set is meticulously researched, as I am very particular about the figures that make up my collection.
Since my battalions and cavalry regiments are numerically large, the figures are designed with raised detail and carefully sculpted folds and creases to make the painting less tiring.
I make the figures that are required irrespective of financial considerations.
What's in a Name?
I have been asked repeatedly about the name of the company. Although I am now resident in the UK, I was born in Gibraltar. Calpe comes from the Roman name for Gibraltar- 'Mons Calpe.' It was thought to be one of the Pillars of Hercules which supported the heavens. The other pillar was considered to be Mons Abyla on the Moroccan coast across the Straits of Gibraltar. These two 'pillars' marked the edge of the known world for the Romans. It remained Calpe until the Moorish invasion of the Iberian Peninsular. The Moors landed at Gibraltar and renamed the Rock Gibel-Tarik (Tarik’s mountain). It was fortified and garrisoned; the keep, part of the walls and gatehouse can still be seen today. The Moors retained Gibraltar until the 12th century when it was retaken by the Spanish 'reconquista'. The Spanish King granted Gibraltar a new coat of arms after the garrison resisted the attempts of the Moors to retake the fortress. The company logo is based on this coat of arms.

We started in 2000 and have a reputation for a good, fast and friendly personal service. CGM figs, as we call them, is an ongoing project.
Many of our variants in figures were done on customer suggestions.
Our first project is to do all the armies and important personalities in the Waterloo campaign to be finished in 2014. Due to the bicentenary of BORODINO in September 2012 we made a lot of Russian troops including, infantry, cavalry and artillery crews and Generals, soon to be finished. We now have Prussians for the period 1813-15. Plus Austrians. And we are now moving into doing Peninsula Napoleonics.
We expanded to other periods such as World War two recently with German and Russian infantry with British soon to follow. We also bought the Testudo 15mm ranges of Caesarian Romans and Gauls adding many new variants and personalities which are being added. These ancient ranges will be expanded to other armies soon.
Our figures are known for their excellence. Especially in the detail of the miniatures, the active and varied poses and the beauty of the faces. They also have historically correct uniforms. They need no cleaning as there is no flash. There are many variants per pose.
They are 17/18mm high and fit in perfectly with other makes such as Fantassin (Now called Warmodelling) AB, Old Glory, Eureka and some others.
They are also economically priced and are considered among the best on the market in 15mm.
We also do packs to order. So if you want a battalion of Belgian or Dutch infantry without a standard bearer, or with less flank company figures, we can do it.

My small company is run and based in the countryside of south east Cornwall. I am lucky to share this part of the world with my very tolerant wife; Nik (November Foxtrot), a tank full of fish and a small flock of chickens. I have occasional visits from my daughter Amy (Alpha Foxtrot) who is undecided whether I am a nerd or a geek.
I have over 30 years experience in modelling and wargaming. Starting with airfix and 1/72 as a child.
As I grew up, I took a break from modelling when I discovered girls, punk rock and beer. I was later introduced to Talisman by Games Workshop in the early 1980's and this led onto Warhammer Fantasy Battles. I have been passionate about all aspects of the modelling and gaming hobby since.
I currently play a number of games which has obviously influenced my product range: Bolt Action, Warmaster, Sword & Spear, Kings of War and Sharpe Practice 2.
When not designing buildings, I am painting a Napoleonic Bavarian & Russian armies, Kings of war Ogres and Bolt action British & Germans.
Charlie Foxtrot Models unofficially started in 2013 when I picked up my mouse and drew on CAD my first buildings for Bolt Action. Initially, the models were for my personal use however the positive reaction from friends inspired me to expand on this. I had taught Product Design for the last ten years so venturing into my own product design company seemed like the next step.Charlie Foxtrot Models was launched on 21.11.14 and products were listed on E bay. E Bay has proved to be a good start, with 100% positive ratings and excellent customer feedback. On the back of this success, I am now working full time on Charlie Foxtrot Models projects.
I have a fully fitted workshop and packaging area and the capacity and desire to expand both my business and my product range. I aim to design and make models that balance the aesthetics, playability, scale, accuracy and detail to produce a kit that I would be happy to assemble and invest time and money in myself. I try to make the kits simple and intuitive to put together to ensure that modellers have a good experience. After all, modelling is meant to be fun and relaxing. The hair pulling comes with competitive gaming!

I’ve also been enjoying this wonderful hobby since elementary school. It all started with my dad’s old 54mm Britain’s Toy soldiers and then I started collecting and playing with my own Britain’s as a kid. Me and my friends used to set up epic battles on the living room floor! I’ve had a love of military movies (El Cid, Waterloo, The Alamo, etc) for as long as I can remember, and I was the kid that forced his parents to take him to Gettysburg for summer vacation! Along the way I’ve played Avalon Hill board games, Dungeon & Dragons, Warhammer, historical miniatures and many other games. If it involves friends, dice, miniatures and tabletop gaming I’m in!
