War in the Forest (2005)

”War In The Forest” is a supplement to our 19th century skirmish rules set, “A Good Day To Die!” (also from HLBS Publishing), and is designed to be used together with the rules. The basic mechanisms will be familiar to those who have played “War On The Plains”, our 19th century Plains warfare supplement. This volume takes “A Good Day To Die!” somewhat outside its original timeframe, and is intended mainly to provide a framework for a basic campaign or series of interconnected games set in the forests of Eastern North America during the era of the great Indian Wars. It consists of a system for generating scenarios and deciding a winner by means of “Glory Points”, plus some special rules specific to the period, and guidelines for creating and using forces based on the various Indian tribes and other combatants. The game also contains a Solitaire Engine designed by Tim Greene, which aims to allow players to organize games in the absence of opponents (see pages 44 to 47). This can be used either for one-off games or in conjunction with the campaign rules.
