Mythology – The Greek Heroic Age Boardgame (2019)

Precis Intermedia brings back this classic boardgame set in the Heroic Age of Greek Mythology (originally published by Yaquinto Publications).

This boardgame for 2 to 10 players puts each of them in the role of a major Greek god/goddess to control mortal heroes and legendary monsters.

The Basic Game is the easiest way to get started. It uses only a minimum of game components and has only two pages of rules. Half the players favor the heroes, while the other half favors the monsters. Alliances can be made and broken in the quest to earn the most glory through victory.

The Advanced Game has many more rules to enhance play, focusing on the control of individual heroes and monsters. It is very different from the Basic Game. Famous heroes (like Jason, Hercules, and Theseus) must face the constant perils of fearsome creatures (like Medusa, Minotaur, and Harpies), divine threats (like earthquakes, volcanoes, and pestilence), and even The Fates in order to survive. Aid can come from a variety of sources, such as the Muses, Caerus, and even divine swords and armor. Glory can be won by a number of actions, with the most-prominent being prizes like Pegasus, the Golden Fleece, and Andromeda. Returning such prizes to Greece is the ultimate source of glory. A deck of cards is used to manifest the powers of the lesser gods, enact events on which certain gods must focus, and call on an Oracle’s wisdom to gain more glory.

Optional rules for the Advanced Game include Prayer/Sacrifice to aid heroes further during play, adding an 11th player as Zeus, incorporating lesser evils to complement the monsters, and a historical set-up table for placing certain counters.
