The Nation Traits
Corsairs – Corsairs, the pirates of the Mediterranean, prided themselves on fast coastal raiding ships and were feared and respected as ferocious warriors that could strike at any moment.
Holy League – Spanish, Genoese, Papal and other smaller city states that banded together under the Pope and his commanders.
Knights of Malta – Knights of Malta policed the Mediterranean and assumed responsibility of the traditional protectors of the Mediterranean, the naval city states of Venice, Genoa, and Pisa. Being somewhat corsair in their own right and sworn against the Turks, Knights of Malta were a well trained force to be Reckoned with.
Turks – The Turkish fleets of the Sultan, including the corsairs and raiders that allies with him in attacks against the Christian fleets.
Venetians – The Republic of Venice was a major maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades and the Battle of Lepanto. Known for it’s wealth through trade and it’s famous Arsenal ship yards where they could build a ship in a day, Venice was the major sea power of the Christian states.
