DISPOSABLE HEROES II is a WWII platoon level historical miniature wargaming system. It is designed not just to put you in command of the troops and weapons of a WWII platoon, but in the historical tactical situation of a platoon commander. It is your rifle squads that will carry your attack forward, or be the difference between holding the line or the enemy breaking through.
DISPOSABLE HEROES II recreates a realistic tactical battlefield situation of a platoon commander.
DISPOSABLE HEROES II features:
• Realistic ground scale and platoon frontage
• Effective Fog of War system
• Accurate availability & deployment of platoons
• Singular command and control system
• Unique firefight mechanics
This is not just another platoon-level WWII system.
DISPOSABLE HEROES II offers a unique tactical challenge with a focus on recreating the actual battlefield conditions that platoons fought in.
This rules system would not be possible without the work and help of Chalfant Conley. He and I wrote the first edition of Disposable Heroes & Coffin for Seven Brothers back in 2002 when it was published under Iron Ivan Games. Since that time, we have written or developed over a dozen rules systems, army books, scenario supplements, and other gaming material. We had also run hundreds of hours of games and attended conventions as both vendors and gamers. In that time we learned a lot about writing and supporting rules systems. When we handed off Iron Ivan Games to Sinister Laboratories in 2016, we closed an important chapter in our business and hobby. In that time since Disposable Heroes & Coffin for Seven Brothers originally came out, we had tinkered with the system purely out of a desire to refine and build a better platoon level game. We had seen dozens of other WWII systems come and go. We had seen our own system age over the course of more than a dozen years. It had held up pretty well I think, though there were things about it that we felt we could have done better or better ways of doing things that hadn’t occurred to us at the time. But we were proud to have written a system that achieved at least a little bit of the crowded WWII market share and had gained some name recognition among so many other game systems.
After the sale of Iron Ivan Games to Sinister Laboratories, I was asked if I would be interested in writing a new edition for the game. I jumped at the chance. I had been working on revisions for the DHC7B system to use in our game club for several years. I was glad to be able to breathe new life into the system by using the experience of Iron Ivan Games and I was excited to get back into the creative side of writing rules, but not having to worry about being a game company owner. This book is a result of these experiences and a desire by me to develop the best WWII platoon level combat system out there. I hope you enjoy the rules and I hope it gives you as good a game as I have enjoyed developing it.
This book contains over 15 years of rules writing experience. Enjoy, and happy gaming!
