Langley Models Contract White Metal Casting & Mould Making

Langley Models can make moulds for the centrifuge process using either natural Butyl rubber or high grade low temperature (cure temp) or High Temp Silicone mould in 9″, 11″ or 12″ moulds. These are made with your patterns and pressed/cured, cut in feed gates and ready to use on a centrifuge machine.  We can also produce the castings for you;-

Contract casting is also undertaken using centrifuge moulds either yours or ones made ourselves. This copies your items to make a production mould. This mould is then cured in our press and the inlet gates cut in. We then cast to make sets of your items. Langley cast for many other companies from Figurines to engine bearings. We like to fill our moulds we produce and although the shot price is higher. (more metal) it saves a lot long term as you have more castings on each mould.

Langley Models use different grades of metal

Langley Models use 7 different grades of metal. All contain tin/lead plus other white metals to alter their characteristics and different levels of flow (to get harder/smaller castings). Pewter is the only white metal we cast which contains no lead. Metal Prices fluctuate according to the current price for Tin, Lead. Antimony and bismuth according to daily prices on the spot market on London Metal Exchange (we don’t control this)

KA to cast small finely detailed parts the cost of the metal is towards high but the parts are small so moulds are typicalically approx £4-4.50 per shot/set

L Grade a middle cost metal giving good detail but with good mallebility (bendy) ideal for casting figures and figurines. Cost typical £4.50 -£7 depending on weight of items (the figures are normally bigger so have more weight.

34.5 or RF1 is a lower cost metal. But giving very good surface finish but items are more brittle than. L grade ideal for lorry or car parts where the surface finish is paramount. And the parts are not subject to bending cost £4.50-6.50 again depending on weight.

Please call 01293 516329 and ask for Tony or Ian and we can talk you through the process.

Pewter a high cost metal

Pewter a high cost metal with a distictive ring. This material has no lead so suitable for parts which are electrified, hard tough finsh with good detail. Shot price typical £6-9 by weight. (Mainly Tin in mix so usually the most expensive metal (high price on London Metal Exchange)

Langley Models do like to get as much on a mould as possible. This will give a higher shot price but you get more items produced. Which makes the labour cost less pro rata to the number of castings produced. (labour is same for a mould with a few items or lots)
